Heart of Wonder

One night  A friend and I spoke Talking of all the things we wanted to share Of everything that needed, yearned to be loosed from our minds And then Silence Deep acknowledging silence Between us  a silence that spoke  all the thoughts that don’t have words A silence that lies weighty within my chest  ever since they saw me looked and saw what is here, beneath the veneer Rilke says to live the questions This question is bursting from me I see the resonance of it hanging in the world  And I ache for the answer, but Perhaps Perhaps this is the time when the question is more important I sense that there is something here to be found My fingers can trace the shape  beneath the layers of meaning  that I want to blow from it like decades of dust from a library book in a movie  What will I be if I simply live this? Who will stand here and engage with the world? The heartbreakingly beautiful understanding that we are capable of this That we, who can destroy with such cruelty Can flood existen
